Afternoon Bike Ride announces forthcoming full length album with new song “Abigail”

New track, "Abigail," is also Afternoon Bike Ride's first single off their upcoming album, Running with Scissors, out on September 19. This lead single is a lively and reflective exploration of memory and the fleeting nature of existence. With its ethereal melodies and uptempo instrumentation, it's packed with a timelessness that soothes the soul. A mystical mixture of introspection and longing, "Abigail" reflects on lead singer Lia's outlook on reincarnation. "As a child," she says, "I believed my parents in this life were my siblings from another life." Rooted in the past yet suspended in the unknown future, where identities and lifetimes intertwine, the song progresses with pattering drums and an energized piano. It's jazzy and angelic with elements of vocal feedback sounding like ghosts moaning through the speakers.

A quiet moment of connection emerges as Lia recalls a chance encounter with a young girl named Abby (hence the title), who speaks to ants and ghosts and who is friends with a tree. "I think [she] was my old friend from a previous life," Lia says. From start to finish, this track is a wise reminder of life's cyclical nature. "Abigail" is a meditation on the ways we care for and are cared for by those we've known across different lives. With lines like embedded memories, this song feels like a conversation with the past, a spiritual glue to something greater than any one person. "I wonder if my dad will speak to me through my computer when he’s gone," adds Lia, "or will he be one of the trees that I always greet when entering the woods?" Emotional depth and heavy-hearted empathy can be found throughout every Afternoon Bike Ride track, so it's only right that this song acts as a fitting beginning to the trio's upcoming third full-length, out in two months.
